Epic Week

This has been a great week by anyone's standards.  Wednesday night we showed up late and sold out the Kirk Avenue Music Hall, then went out and saw a kick-ass local band at the bar around the corner.  In the morning we played the local radio station (also around the corner) and ate at Tudor's Biscuit World.  Arlington did not disappoint, managing to fill Iota beyond capacity two nights in a row.  A WAMU radio spot midday on Friday turned into a 4 hour hang as we waited for the White Torpedo to get fixed.  Later that night we invented a new game, Name That Cat Facebook Edition (you impersonate some cat by quoting their facebook status, the other guys have to guess their identity)  and invented a new name for the van; The Dude Tube (we had 10 guys in there on the way back to the hotel).

Saturday we spent the afternoon in the sun at Camp Jam in the Pines (best kept festival secret), rocked a great evening set then hung with some of the Duster and Railroad Earth family.  NRPS closed out the night with a little Panama Red and we did the same thanks to some friends.  Finally we headed back to bluegrass country today at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival.  We were on after the Seldom Scene and before Allison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, or AKUSfJD "if you're into the whole brevity thing."  After our set we sold about a million Things That Fly then grabbed some food.  While we were eating, Tony Rice strolled into the backstage area.   He was AKUSfJD's super special guest.  Very very cool, that man.  We hung out, then hit the road just as they were closing up their set.

We'll finish this drive off tomorrow, spend a day at home in Nashville, then head down to Atlanta, Charlotte, Asheville and possibly Carborro to close out the Eastern portion of our Things That Fly CD Release Tour.  RRE had to cancel Saturday in Carborro, so we're waiting to figure out how that will play out, we're optimistic that the show will go on in some capacity but you might want to stay tuned if you're planning to attend that show.
